ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Who we are and how we are organized
The Chicago Police Department is led by the Superintendent of Police and organized into bureaus, each accountable for a defined part of the mission. Authority flows through a single chain of command, described in full in GO 01-01.
MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT
Superintendent DeAndre Hayes
DEANDRE HAYES SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE ★★★★

The Chicago Police Department exists for one purpose: to protect this city and the people who call it home.

To the law-abiding residents of Chicago, know this: you deserve to live in safe neighborhoods, walk your streets without fear, and raise your families in communities where crime is not tolerated. Under my leadership, this Department will remain steadfast in that mission.

We will support the men and women who put on this uniform every day with the training, equipment, and leadership they need to perform their duties professionally, ethically, and confidently. Our officers will be held to the highest standards of integrity, and they will have a command staff that stands beside them as they serve this city with honor.

To those who choose to victimize our communities through violence, armed robbery, carjacking, narcotics trafficking, or organized criminal activity, understand this: the Chicago Police Department will pursue every lawful avenue to identify you, apprehend you, and bring you before the justice system. We will not be intimidated, we will not retreat from our responsibilities, and we will not allow criminals to dictate the future of our neighborhoods.

This is a new era of policing, one built on accountability, proactive enforcement, constitutional policing, and unwavering service to the people of Chicago. Our commitment is simple: protect the innocent, hold offenders accountable under the law, and restore public confidence through action, not promises.

Chicago has always been a city of resilience. Together, we will strengthen our communities, support those who serve with honor, and ensure that this city remains a place where families can live, work, and thrive.

WE WILL PROTECT. WE WILL SERVE. WE WILL LEAD.

OUR COMMITMENT
Loyalty. To the city, to the oath and to each other.
Service. Answer the call, take the report, follow it through.
Integrity. The rules apply hardest to the people who enforce them. Misconduct is investigated, not absorbed.
Pride. The star means something. It is earned in the academy and kept every shift.
